CEC attended the Transportation Engineering and Safety Conference (TESC), “Next Gen Transportation: Preparing Industry for Tomorrow, Today” December 5-7 put on by the Penn State College of Engineering in State College, PA. This is an annual event for professionals throughout the country on important issues given by experts in the transportation industry today. Leslie Richards, PennDOT Secretary of Transportation, and Dr. T. Pete Ruane, President and CEO of the American Road and Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) were keynote speakers.
There were five key tracks of sessions — Safety, Operations, Planning, Design, and Technology which covered a wide range of transportation subjects. Sessions included a discussion on inclusion and diversity, case studies on mini-roundabouts, Connected and Autonomous Vehicle (CAV) testing facilities in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Florida, PA Turnpike State-wide Sign Inventory and Management, and Freight Management. Also updates to the new AASHTO Bike Guide, a “Speed Dating” session where participants were able to rotate to different tables and talk briefly with representatives from state agencies, and many more.
