Michael McCarey, P.E., Project Manager of the Authority-Municipal Services Department, attended the Pennsylvania American Water Works Association Spring Joint Technical Conference on March 6th in Exton, PA. The conference’s educational and training opportunities attracts a variety of water supply industry stakeholders including municipalities, water authorities, investor-owned utilities, water system operators, and professionals.
This year the conference focused on popular recent topics within the water industry, including a review of regulatory limits being considered for Perfluorooctane Sulfonate (PFOS) & Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA) compounds by various states, municipalities, and federal agencies. Other topics included methods of algae removal within treatment plant intake reservoirs, regulatory and legislative updates, and a presentation discussing design criteria to be considered while sizing, operating, and maintaining elevated storage tanks.
