Just in time for Halloween in 2019, construction was completed on the Oakbourne Road Bridge Replacement Project crossing the Goose Creek in Westtown Township, Chester County.
Carroll Engineering Corporation (CEC) was hired by Westtown Township to perform complete engineering, permitting, environmental services and construction oversight of the single span structure. CEC also performed survey and basemapping, structural design, right-of-way documentation, roadway design and safety upgrades. A key design feature of the project included the realignment of Oakbourne Road to improve traffic flow, roadway safety and increase sight distance. A challenging aspect of the project included coordination of the many utilities at the site, including a water and sewer relocation and coordinating with SEPTA due to the adjacent railroad.
The bridge structure consisted of a 22 foot span precast concrete box culvert with precast concrete end sections and brown powder coated guiderail installed for aesthetic purposes. This vital east / west cross-township link will serve Westtown residents for years to come.
