Today, with a population exceeding 270,000 and growing as rapidly as any county in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Northampton County is a diverse, thriving and prosperous community. It’s a great place to live, work, raise a family, and do business. Northampton County is home to thousands of individual businesses and enterprises that contribute in so many ways to the county’s economic prosperity. These companies, large and small, are responsible for the jobs and the future of hundreds of thousands of men and women and their families. These employers are one of the reasons that Northampton County is a special place to live.
From elementary schools to colleges and universities, Northampton County’s focus on education is a hallmark success for students of all ages. The four significant colleges and universities located in the county are Lafayette, Lehigh, Moravian, and Northampton County Community College. Northampton County also offers superior health care services. The state-of-the-art medical centers, including St. Luke’s Hospital and Easton Hospital continue to expand their facilities, providing a growing population with access to the finest health care in the region.
A very important program the County invested in is the Private – Public Partnership, or P3 contract to address 33 structurally deficient bridges. Under this program, the first of its kind among local governments in Pennsylvania, the bridges will be replaced while locking in the County’s cost. Bundling the bridges together will create efficiencies in the design process.
